Tesla’s Cybertruck Struggles with Disappointing Sales, Raising Questions About the Company’s Response

Despite Tesla’s ambitious production plans, the company’s sales of the Cybertruck have fallen far short of expectations. According to the latest reports, Tesla delivered only around 5,000 Cybertrucks in the second quarter of 2025, a steep decline compared to the company’s initial projections of annual production exceeding 250,000 units, with the current rate estimated at just 20,000 per year.

In Tesla’s latest report on deliveries and production, the «other models» category, which includes the Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Tesla Semi, saw the company manufacture 13,409 vehicles and deliver 10,394. This figure is less than half the peak reached in 2024, when Tesla was still fulfilling pre-orders for the Cybertruck.

While Tesla does not provide separate statistics for each model, international data suggests that the Model S and Model X account for approximately 5,000 deliveries. Consequently, the Cybertruck likely sold around 5,000 units during the quarter.

The decline in Cybertruck sales occurred despite the availability of a $7,500 tax credit. It is currently unclear how Tesla will respond to these disappointing numbers. Earlier reports had indicated that Tesla had begun accepting the Cybertruck for trade-ins, and the company is now said to have a backlog of over 10,000 unsold Cybertruck models in its inventory.

The Cybertruck’s struggles raise questions about Tesla’s ability to execute on its ambitious plans and the long-term viability of the electric pickup truck market. As the company navigates these challenges, all eyes will be on its next moves and how it adapts to the changing landscape of the automotive industry.
